The Garland Area Alliance of Black School Educators (GAABSE) Golden Apple Educator of the Year Award was held on May 8, 2010 at the Special Events Center. The event began at 11:00 AM and concluded at 1:30 PM. This new initiative will honor an outstanding educator and paraprofessional from each level, elementary, middle and high school, in the Garland Independent School District.
The GAABSE Golden Apple Educator of the Year Award selection committee was composed of six people; the Committee Chair, at least one representative from each level, elementary, middle and high school and two other professional and active members of GAABSE. In the event that the committee became deadlocked in selection of an applicant, the current, GAABSE president will casted his vote to break it. In the committee, at least three of its members were certified teachers and/or administrators in the Garland Independent School District. The selection committee did not include someone who is nominated for the award.
