ABOUT US

     The Garland Area Alliance of

Black School Educators (GAABSE) was

founded in the fall of 2001. We are a non-

profit, education organization comprised of

educators, and other professionals in Garland Independent School District.

Garland ISD is located in one of the fastest growing areas of Dallas County,  extending from the Dallas city limits, northeast to the county line and serving the communities of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse.

     Garland Independent School District is

currently the third largest school district in the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex, and is

twelfth largest district in the state of Texas.

We work collaboratively with various

organizations across the United States including the National Alliance of Black School  Educators (NABSE), the National Alliance for the Advancement of  Colored People (Garland Branch), the Rotary Club (Garland Branch), and the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE).

Primary Goals

  1. To establish a coalition of educators that are sensitive to the needs of ALL students.

  2. To provide support, encouragement, and networking with others in a forum for sharing information and sharing ideas.

  3. To provide college readiness opportunities to students in the Garland area.

  4. To provide scholarships for students entering a post secondary educational institution.

  5. To provide opportunities for continuing professional development.

Committee's

We have three permanent committee's that allow our organization to stay active. They are as follows:

  • Event Committee
  • Scholarship Committee
  • Community Involvement Committee

The Event Committee organizes GAABSE's Annual Gala, Golden Apple Educator Awards, participation in the Martin Luther King Parade, and various social events hosted by the organization.

The Scholarship Committee organizes GAABSE's selection and presentation of GAABSE's awards and their recepients, the college fair, and Excel awards.

The Community Involvement Committee provides an outreach program, public awareness of the organization, and attends GISD's Board Meetings.
